Three Women Charged in Douglas Co. Jail Fire

AVA, Mo. – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office releases the names of the three women responsible for setting a fire in the Douglas County Jail last month.

Sheriff Chris Degase reports on Saturday, July 15th, the jail filled with smoke and the building was evacuated. All of the inmates were quickly accounted for and seen by medical personnel.

This week grand jury indictments were handed down against 26-year-old Courtney Jean Smith of Thornfield, 36-year-old Amanda Sue Wade of Ava and 24-year-old Erin Nichols of Ava. All …read more
